Job Summary and Qualifications

Under medical direction this position provides for the implementation and coordination of Respiratory Care procedures based upon the Policies and Procedures of the Respiratory Care Department. In addition to the performance of all routine respiratory procedures the Respiratory Practitioner will be responsible for special procedures, within his/her scope of practice, maintaining and improving clinical competence, practicing universal precautions, maintaining and cleaning equipment, and performing any other duties deemed necessary by the shift supervisor. Also provides consultation, collaboration and education to the medical staff, multi-disciplinary care team members, and patients/families. NBRC accredited RRT credential or CRT if grandfathered in

Current Colorado Respiratory License

Current BLS, ACLS certifications through AHA or ARC required.

PALS preferred.

NRP preferred

Graduate of AMA accredited Respiratory Therapist Program

  1. Experience:

6 months previous experience

  1. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

During the first year in the position, the employee will be cross trained to staff the Intensive Care Units, the ED, the Multi-Trauma units, the floors and provide special procedures. The employee must be able to successfully demonstrate competence in staffing the Intensive Care Units, the ED, the Multi-Trauma units, the floors and provide special procedures by successfully meeting the standards outlined in the Orientation Skills Inventory. Must possess and maintain skills to be eligible for staffing in the Intensive Care Units, the ER, the floors, and provide special procedures. Must display effective written and verbal skills in order to communicate in a clear, concise manner with physicians, staff, and patients. Must possess assessment skills, knowledge of respiratory principles & procedures to coordinate and implement appropriate Respiratory Care to patients. Models the behaviors outlined in the Values and Standards including Constant Courtesy, Patient Satisfaction, Teamwork & Respect, Professionalism and Personal Responsibility with all customers, peers and leadership at all times.
