Founded in 1824 as Jefferson Medical College (JMC), Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health also includes the Jefferson Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions, Population Health and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. JMC is one of the largest private medical schools in the country—awarding more than 30,000 medical degrees and having more living graduates than any other medical school in the nation. Jefferson University Physicians (JUP) is Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health’s multi-specialty physician practice consisting of the full-time faculty of JMC.

Established in 1825, Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, has major programs in a wide range of clinical specialties. Services are provided at five locations — Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience in Center City Philadelphia; Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia; Jefferson at the Navy Yard and Jefferson at Voorhees in South Jersey.

Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health is consistently rated among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, including national rankings in a number of specialties including: Orthopedics, Pulmonology, Rehabilitation, Cancer, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, and Urology. It is one of the few hospitals in the U.S. that is both a Level 1 Trauma Center and a federally-designated regional spinal cord center. In addition, the Kimmel Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated clinical cancer center for excellence in cancer care and research.
