Recreation Assistant Jobs in Washington
A Recreation Assistant in the therapy industry assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of leisure-based therapy programs and activities that promote the well-being and improvement of client's physical and mental health. They work closely with Therapists, Counselors, and other healthcare professionals to create individualized recreational therapy plans that suit the needs and interests of each client. They supervise and engage clients in various activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, social events, and excursions. They also monitor and document client's progress and response to the therapy.
To be successful in this role, a Recreation Assistant should have strong interpersonal skills, creativity, patience, and a genuine interest in helping others. They should also possess a good understanding of therapeutic recreation principles, practices and programs. Relevant certifications such as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or being CPR and First Aid certified could be required by some employers. Prior to becoming a Recreation Assistant, a person might have roles such as a Recreation Aide, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or a Direct Support Professional in a healthcare or social service setting.
