Respiratory Therapist Jobs in Virginia
A Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in the therapy industry by providing care for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. They assess, treat, and care for patients with lung diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, and COPD. They are also essential in emergency situations, providing life-saving treatment to victims of heart attacks, stroke, drowning, or shock. Respiratory Therapists are responsible for operating and maintaining various types of respiratory equipment, including ventilators and artificial airway devices.
Respiratory Therapists should possess strong problem-solving skills, compassion, and attention to detail. An essential requirement is a certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) which includes Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials. Prior to becoming a Respiratory Therapist, a person could have roles such as a respiratory therapy technician, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or a medical assistant, which offer valuable patient care experience.
